Here is Volume Three of our “Think Outside the Box” series and we’re introducing you to the newest addition, Jonell Jones! She’s already fitting in great with the Think team and you can see why below.
Get to Know Jonell
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in central Minnesota in a little town called Princeton. The Land of 10,000 Lakes! I went to college in St. Cloud, MN and as soon as I graduated I left and moved to lovely Durango! I’ve been a resident here for 10 years now and I’m happy to call this place my home.
How did you get started in technology?
I’ve been a gamer since as long as I can remember and friends that know me well call me the “Game Queen”. I started tinkering around with Photoshop, HTML coding, and other programs when I was 15 years old, so I was pretty advanced by the time I got into college.
What is your role at Think? (In plain English, please.)
I am the NEW Office & Marketing Manager at THINK! My role is to make life a little easier for everyone else here, so that they can give our clients their full attention. I handle most administrative tasks, but I also use my creativity to help market all the wonderful things about THINK!
Outside the Box: Lightning Round
What 80’s movie would you say best describes you?
Probably the Labyrinth because the main character (Sarah) was able to figure her way out of any dilemma in the movie (most of my favorite 80’s movies were kids movies because I was born in ’84!), but my favorite movie now would be The Breakfast Club.
If you could bring back a popular 80’s fad, what would it be?
Who is your inner Super Hero? What is your super power?
I would be Cat Claw! I’d have the appearance of a humanoid cat with super cat abilities and I would fight crime, but only for a few hours since the rest of the time would be reserved for cat naps.
If you could be a Star Wars character, what would your name/angle be?
My name would be Jaya and I would use the force for good, but I imagine myself to be like Han Solo. Traveling around in my own ship and I would use a dual lightsaber since I’m actually trained on using the bo staff.
If you could be an animal, what would it be and why?
After reading about my super hero power you probably could guess that I’d be a cat! I’ve always loved cats (don’t worry, I love dogs too!) since I was little. I just think they have unique personalities, they’re cute and they like to sleep… a lot! Plus, they’re adventurous (sometimes…) and they don’t take crap from nobody!
If money was no object and you could buy anything you wanted, what would it be and why?
I would buy a house by the ocean for my parents, then I would buy a house for my in-laws, and I guess I’d buy a new house for me too. I’ll stop there since this list could get pretty long!
What is your favorite thing about Durango?
What is there not to love?! I’m a big foodie, so Durango is almost perfect in that sense (they need a Korean restaurant). I’m very adventurous and I absolutely love the outdoors! Exploring opportunities are endless in this area! Go in any direction around Durango and you’ll find plenty of hiking & biking trails along with other outdoor activities.
What would you choose as a slogan for your life?
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson
What is your favorite material thing that you own and why?
My house because it has all my other favorite stuff in it.
What is your favorite season and why?
I love all the seasons! I couldn’t live in a place that was always warm or cold. There’s something special about them all.
What is your pet peeve?
My absolute biggest pet peeve is WASTING FOOD! I just hate the thought of throwing food away when there’s people and children out there that haven’t eaten anything for days.
What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hongeohoe is a Korean dish. You either love it or hate it and I love it! This is how Wikipedia describes it: Hongeohoe is made from skate (a type of ray) and emits a very strong, characteristic ammonia-like odor that has been described as being “reminiscent of an outhouse”.
Who is your role model?
My Korean Grandma because she’s always helping others. My mother told me that even when she was little, my grandmother would bring homeless people into their home to feed them. She goes to the veterans hospital and does acupuncture for the vets. She also visits orphanages to help children without families feel cared for and loved. She’s received multiple awards for the work that she does.
